Five and a half kilometres of protected water shared by one resort, which is the real luxury in an atoll nation where most lagoons host several. Villas are spaced far enough apart that neighbours are a distant roofline. The water is shallow, warm and swimmable directly from your deck — snorkelling begins at the ladder.
Most have a retractable roof panel over the bed, operated by a switch, which turns the bedroom into an open-air room under the Indian Ocean sky. Many have a water slide from the upper deck into the lagoon. These sound like gimmicks and are the two things every guest actually uses daily.
No shoes, no news — the house's founding line, and it is enforced gently. There is an over-water observatory with a serious telescope, a silent outdoor cinema, and a kitchen culture that runs to organic gardens and a chocolate room. Service works on a barefoot butler model, one per villa.
Getting there is a 40-minute seaplane from Malé, which is weather-dependent and adds meaningful cost. The resort is family-friendly, which suits some couples and not others. And the mandatory service and green levies push the true nightly cost well above the headline rate.
A Chapter Two villa at the outer end of the jetty — the newer builds, the longest sightline across empty lagoon, and no villa beyond you. The one-bedroom water reserves with slide are the popular choice but sit closer to the main island.
Barefoot rather than discreet — this is a house of slides, observatories and outdoor cinema. The privacy is structural: the villas are far apart and the lagoon is private, so you can spend a week without seeing another guest.
January to April for dry, clear water. May to November brings monsoon rain and lower rates; the diving improves with plankton.
